This website has been written by me, Martin Kurzer, a specialist hernia surgeon.

I have been a surgeon for 30 years and specialised in hernia surgery 20 years ago .

Now, it’s all I do. I see, and have seen, a lot of patients – and the same questions keep coming up. So this site is the sum of the last two decades of my personal experience, talking to patients before and after their operations, and obviously operating on them too.

While this is very much a personal view, I have tried to make it a balanced view, and as objective as possible. My aim is to inform, and help you make your own choice.  And where I make a controversial statement I have made it clear that it is my opinion, and I give my reasons.

One of my goals was to make this site extremely ‘user friendly’ – to help you find the information you are looking for, to guide you, and to tell you what you need to know. I have made an effort to write this site in everyday language, and have tried to avoid ‘medispeak’.

However some of the specialist words are very useful, and keep coming up time after time. So where I do use technical terms, I explain them, or link to the glossary / dictionary.

And I wanted to make the navigation easy and intuitive, so you can find what you are looking for quickly and easily.

If there is any way you think I can improve the site, or if there are questions unanswered please let me know. [feedback]

Happy browsing – I do hope you enjoy it.  Please let me know.
